I’m so excited to share some exciting news with you all! I’ve teamed up with lovelies from Barker’s New Zealand as an ambassador and I’ve been cooking up a storm with their amazing range of jams, compotes, chutneys, relishes, sauces and cordials. They recently sent me a range of their beautiful fruit-filled goodies and I’ve been having a lot of fun playing with them all in the kitchen.
I’m always on the hunt to find new and interesting products and I was quite drawn to their new compote range as compote isn’t something I grew up eating. I love how bright and fresh all the compotes looked so I had to give them a try first. I haven’t had a lot of compote in my time but for those of you who also find it unfamiliar, it’s just fruit that has been slowly cooked in a sugar syrup and can be flavoured with spices or alcohol. It’s basically the same thing as a fruit coulis (fruit puree sauce), but the fruit is left chunky instead of being a smooth puree.
It’s super yummy swirled through yoghurt 🙂
I found that the compote paired really nicely with things I’d typically eat with fruit and it worked really well with breakfast, snack or dessert dishes. It was super yummy swirled through porridge or natural yoghurt as it gave just the right amount of sweetness and fruitiness. It also made a lovely fruit topping for ice-cream, pancakes, crepes and waffles. I think it would also be great on top of a pavlova or a cheesecake too. And of course it was great in smoothies and on top of smoothie bowls.
Can’t wait to keep experimenting with other goodies for Barker’s Pantry!
